Lessons Learned...

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day and took time out to honor those Hero's both past and present! Speaking of "Hero's"... Here is another really cool photo of my HERO in Afghanistan that I thought I would share with you!!!

(This is my hubby "resting" on the side of "The Ghar". The COL shared this photo with me.... to which I couldn't help but to reply "leave it to my hubby to be laying down on the job!" LOL)

Let me tell you I have learned a VERY important lesson while in AZ. The lesson is called "BACKING UP"!!! And I thought I would share it with you today!

It seems while here my computer's hard drive decided to go on vacation, a permanent vacation! Yeah - not FUN!!!! But luck enough for me - I did find a computer guy an hour and a half a way that could replace the hard drive so I am back up and running.... but he was unable to recover anything off my old one.....

So to put that in perspective - I have a laptop again - and it is working but before when I had about 50 icons on my desktop - I now have three.... yes - just three!!! (Can you imagine what a scary sight that is?!?!) To make matters a little worse.... all my program files and program disks are in GA, I'm in AZ and I am not sure yet when I will be returning to GA.....

Then last night it dawned on me..... while I was smart and had backed up all my cutter files and a few of my business documents, and ALL my photos (thanks GOODNESS), there are sooooo many things that I hadn't backup that are now lost.......

For example all:
My files in progress, my 38,000 +++ Fonts, my clip art, my email addresses and saved emails, my favorite internet sites and the favorite list - gone.... My home budget and bills documents, the documents that I had scanned over the years for my husband (he had his own "file" on my computer), my gift lists for other people, my wish list for myself, all the "extra" programs you don't think about like... windows media player, adobe PDF reader, my font viewer.....

Well you get the point I am sure!!!! So my lesson for the week.... when I get back home again and get my computer's hard drive rebuilt back to where it use to be - I will be backing up the WHOLE ENTIRE HARD DRIVE.... I mean heck I have a 180G external hard drive that is just sitting there!!! Sheesh!!!!

So here's a friendly reminder - back up your DATA!!! Back it up often!!! And KNOW where all your current software disks and drivers are! Keep them in one place so if you have to call a neighbor to go and get them and mail them to you (Which I am hoping I can do!!!) they will be able to find them!!!!

Until Next Time!

Cya~

Looks like we all learn the hard way. Several yrs back my computer crashed. And I lots every pic I had. This is before I learned the lession of "BACKUP" after that I back up everything, I even take flash shots of my fav lists, desk top, and other programs. 1st on a disk, 2nd on the web ie:photobutet, myspace, anywhere I can store it. And now 3 on a mini mem stick.
I love these little things. Mine look like little candies and hold about 4g each.
So Now I'm never gonna loose another pic, file, clipart, list again.
So lessoned learned for me.
How about everyone else?

Oh and so sorry about you losing your hard drive. Really sucks.
And great pic of hubby. Looks comfy there. NOT lol

Great pic of hubby, seems that is the majority of pics we tend to get from overseas...lol

Sorry about your HD failure. I have a ton of fonts, if you need any just ask ;)

Oh my, well I have not tried it but someone told me when you have a hard drive fail-just put it in the freezer and often it will then work long enough to backup your stuff from. If you try it, let us know if it worked. I try to back up to cd's but I'm sure there are things I have not thought to put on them. It can sometimes be nice to start with a fresh 'clean' computer too. I guess there are probably more cons than pros though. I hope you are able to get what you need back quickly. GOOD luck!

I'm sorry to hear that you lost all your files. It actually happened to me about a month ago, and I lost all my daughters pictures of her first two years. It was not good. I learned the hard way, but I definitely do backup now.
