Kudo's to "CBS's Sunday Morning"!!!

*** PLEASE NOTE - today's blog rant/rave is about my frustrations as a military wife. If you came here for scrapbooking or for a feel good story - you might want to skip today's post! I'll be back on track tomorrow! I promise!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The CBS Evening News may have only devoted 13 seconds on Tuesday June 25th to the deaths of seven soldiers in Afghanistan -- as Katie Couric anchored from the Staples Center the night before the Michael Jackson memorial -- and just 15 seconds Wednesday night to their caskets arriving back in the U.S., but the producers of "CBS's Sunday Morning" should be commended, no applauded for giving Martha Gillis, the aunt of Army Lieutenant Brian Bradshaw killed in Afghanistan the same day Jackson died, an “opinion” segment on their show.

Mrs Gillis conveyed the frustration of military families over the media's misplaced priorities. But I have to tell you I personally don't think it it is just the media but Americans in general!

And while I am not going to get on a public tirade about Michael Jackson and how I feel society as a whole is pretty screwed up to be so enamored and so devastate by the dealth of a suppose child molester....

I do feel compelled to say that I feel this county is in a sad state when the very soldiers who are fighting and giving up their lives so that we have the freedom to even listen to musical celebrates are not given the honor and dignity that they deserve!

So kudos to "CBS's Sunday Morning" for allowing this extremelly brave lady to call out the media, to call out Americans on their tack, on their ungratefulness, on their own self centerness!!

Make sure you thank a soldier or their family! And please remember to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so we can live in this country and enjoy the freedoms that we do!!!

Until Next Time~

Cya~

Lori hun I want to thank you so much for speaking out and reminding the american public, even if just a small number, of the impact they have on these young lives, to give just a little time in there life to remember and thank these men and women for their for all that they do for us.
So many of these american children, and yes they are someones child, are overlooked. And how said it that.
I sit's here in tears over that thought.
I am so proud of my son and his now wife for their sacrific. And am saddened by the fact that nobody knows the hell they went through while in Iraq those many many months. But am still brought to tears everytime someone tell me to thank them.
Lori I apployed you my dear.
THANK YOU!!!!

I'm sitting here, in tears, wondering WHY Americans put more emphasis on rock stars (so to speak) than they do their own who are, as you said, fighting SO hard and dying to save this great country we live in. I watched the video in awe of this woman who got to speak out on national television! What a touching and heartfelt "story" of a brave young man who died way too young. Thanks, Lori, for posting this on your blog! Each and every one of us need to see this! It's a wake up call to Americans who value stars more than their own home town boys and girls who serve this country! Kudos to YOU, Lori, and God help us all!

Here, here. I wholeheartedly agree that the media and some Americans definitely have lost sight of which qualities should be admired and what people should be lauded as heroes. People fighting for freedom, curing disease, and risking themselves to save others are heroes, not someone that can throw a ball through a hoop or sing a song. It's sad that we can't even admire our leaders, as most politicians are morally bankrupt. My DH and I were just talking about this the other day. I'm glad to see that others see this too.

Lori,
Thank you for posting that. I watch the CBS Sunday morning show every Sunday and was in tears while I watched it. It is so heart breaking that our boys should die and then to have the media not even give it a thought to give some kind of coverage that our true heros deserved. I was appalled at all the media attention that was giving to Michael Jackson then and now.
