the day after....

First I want to thank EACH and every one of you that took the Beloved Keepsakes "Thank a Veteran Challenge"! Being a wife of a Veteran it truly means more to me than you can possible know..... SO thank you, thank you, thank you if YOU thanked a Vet yesterday!

BUT...

I have to tell you I am terrible disappointed that so few people actually took the time out to thank a Vet. I am hoping and even praying that more people actually followed through with the challenge and just didn't comment here on my blog. (I really really really hope that is the case.)

The reason I say this...is well, in this day and age there is such a complacency about the war. About soldiers... Whether you agree with the war, whether you agree with the President - it really shouldn't matter. What SHOULD matter is that there are people who LOVE this country enough to risk their LIFE for it. To risk their life for you! Some of these people (like my husband) were not even born in this country yet they are risking their lives for it.

Maybe that's why. Maybe because my husband lived in a country where they were not free, where there was war on their streets, where they actually had to have ARMED guards take them to and from school - that he realizes what a GREAT thing we have here and thus, he is willing to defend it.

I worry about what our county is turning into, I really do..... Let me just throw out some numbers here.... and you tell me what you think.

I asked that everyone take the challenge to thank a Vet yesterday - I said I was hoping that I got 50 comments about how people took me up on that challenge... Needless to say I was VERY disappointed as I only had 17 people comment - NOT EVEN half what I had hoped for. I have to admit that was very very disappointing..... But..... What is even worse -

I had 247 visitors at my blog yesterday. 247 INDIVIDUAL visitors. Of those 247 visits..... The free file that was offered yesterday was downloaded a 154 times......

And I only got 17 comments from people who went out of their way to thank a Veteran.

Wow....... ponder on that one for a little..... pretty scary if you ask me.

(I'll be out of town tomorrow visiting my BFF - so no freebie Friday tomorrow! You'll have to come back next week for that!)

Until Next Time!

Cya~

Hi Lori, sorry you didn't get the response you hoped for yesterday. I didn't get a chance to get back online after visiting your site yesterday, but I wanted you to know that I did thank a vet...well, 3 actually. I posted a general "thank you" to my military friends and their spouses as my facebook status and then sent personal messages to 2 of my friends that are currently serving and one friend that is no longer in the military but is serving in Afghanistan on the civil side. Hope you hear from many more that just didn't get back to you yesterday--and thanks to you for being a military wife and reminding all of us of the sacrifices our heroes and their families make daily.

I am so sorry about your response yesterday. I agree with you wholeheartedly about backing the troops. Regardless of your political views, the troops NEED the support of our nation. It should be an honor to support them, especially if you are not willing, or able to do what they do for us. I certainly couldn’t do what they do, and they do it willingly. OOH-RAH!!!! (sorry, that’s the Marine Corp Mom coming through)

I totally understand your frustration Lori. Remember that you did inspire 17 people. And hopefully you inspired many more who simply did not comment. Please don't hesitate to continue to inspire through your blog. I'd be willing to bet it touched many more readers and veterans. YOU ROCK GIRL!!

Lori, I'm sorry I didn't get back her to post yesterday, but I did thank several veterans. My son is a veteran and so is our best friend. Also thank your husband for what he does!

We actually had a breakfast for all our local veterans yesterday at my daughter's school. Since we live in a small town we only have around 40 people there. Last night we took our neighbor to dinner. Every year we do this as a tradition to honor him. He will be turning 93 next month and has had quit a life. My DD just sits in awe as he tells his stories of war and serving his country. Sorry I didn't post last night, it was late by the time we arrived home & put DD to bed. God Bless!

I'd have to agree Lori. Sorry more people don't know what we have here.

PS Didn't realize your DH was not born here. What a wonderful man to do what he does. Love him and you for that, TY!

Lori,
Lori,
I wasn't able to get back online yesterday either (work is crazy!!), but I thanked our UPS driver... he is an active service member!! He was gone last Christmas and he sent us a card! What a great guy, he was so grateful! Also, I have to be honest, this is the first year I have really thought about both of my Grandpa's as Vets (they are both gone now). So I am sorry I didn't post yesterday, but it was because of you that I thought of my Grandpa's and thanked Aaron (the UPS driver). So thank you Lori and please thank you husband too!!

I too thanked many vets on Tuesday, Wed. and Thursday. On Thursday our community honored a solder killed in Afghanistan earlier this month. I took my kids out of school early to join in the procession through our small town. My kids are 5 and 7, they don't really understand now about the war, but I hope that by joining all the other people in town and lining the streets with fellow Americans, that they can understand that we all can make an impact. While there we thanked every vet we met.
So Lori, your words HAVE inspired me. Thank you so much

I sincerely thank our vets EVERY day but I did get to hug one elderly gentleman that came into my store. He was just the cutest thing and I had the urge to give him a big HUG and tell him THANKS. He almost cried...and so did I!

So sad that you had such a poor response. I didn't come to you blog on Wed as I had a parade & then a dinner to attend so sadly I missed your awesome freebie which I could have used. Yesterday morning I did a funeral escort for one of our Marines who is being buried in Arlington. I hate that people have to be told to show their thanks & appreciation to these men & women who give their all for all of us...and they do it voluntarily. As a member of The Patriot Guard Riders I luckily get to meet our Vets often & I visit the Veteran's Hospital weekly. I get way more out of it than they do!! Oh yeah....my son is one of those special 1% who stepped up to serve our country along with your hubby! Thank him for me please. HOOAH!!

Hi Lori,
Sorry I didn't post but I sure thought about the many men and women who are serving and who have served. I didn't see any veterns on Vetern's Day (at least in their uniforms) but I did ask my daughter to thank her boyfriend for me. He lives in another state and is going to college and is an active member of the Air Force. I know, I could have thanked him myself but they haven't been dating that long. But I did say a prayer for all those currently serving to stay safe. Thanks to your hubby for all he does. Thanks for making us think about our veterns on this special day. Pam

I am so sorry you were disappointed yesterday. I really hope that many more were brought to awareness by your blog than actually commented. There are many of us that are VERY Grateful to our troops and their families. Seems like we are the non vocal majority. Please tell your husband and his unit thank you for their service and tell them that we hope for world peace someday. Where was your husband born?

Hi Lori! I am sorry I did not get back here right away. But I did thank a soldier! I went to the forgotten soldiers network and sent an email saying thank you!It is easy for any one who would like to, click here: http://www.forgottensoldiers.org/write-soldier.shtml

I'm a little late...but just know that I use a lot of the free and purchased files for cards that I send to our soldiers through Operation Write Home (was Cards for Heroes). It's the least I can do to show my appreciation.

Hi Lori,

Bummer that you didn't get the response you were looking for. I've been computer/forums MIA for awhile now (too many sicknesses going around my house to spend time on the computer) but I did thank veterans on Veterans Day last week. My father, father-in-law and grandfather (WWII ex-POW) were all in the military, so it's a special day for me as well. I pray for the military often, and hope that it does some good :-) Thank you for all you do in promoting our Vets!

Hi Lori, sorry this is way past Veterans Day. But I just came to your site to check on your Friday Freebie and read your post about Thanking a Veteran. My husband and I were in the Atlanta airport back in August and just finished having our lunch while waiting for our flight home. We found two soldiers in the restaurant and found their servers and bought their lunches and paid the tips to each of their servers. Then my husband and I went to the two soliers and shook their hand and gave them a big Thank You for serving our country...they, not knowing that we just bought their lunches. We have always gave a thanks to any soldier we see on the street, as my husband is a Vet from the Viet Nam war and know first hand how the Vet then was treated on the street. It is a great feeling in the heart when you can do something kind to someone who gives so much.
