Ground Hog Day....

According to Wikipedia (man, have I ever told you I LOVE LOVE LOVE Wikipedia?!?!)

The groundhog (Marmota monax), also known as a woodchuck, whistle-pig, or in some areas as a land-beaver, is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots.

I have never actually seen a groundhog or a woodchuck (Hmmmm but as a child I did use to ask "How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood!"  Bahahaha)....  well I had never seen one until I moved here!!!

I mean honestly the only thing I have ever known about Groundhogs was that there is a holiday in February where if the groundhog sees his shadow then there is going to be six more weeks of winter weather!!!

And then.... and then we moved here!!!!

See up here in the north Atlanta area it is pretty hilly.  Yes we actually have hills and EVEN mountains up here!!! LOL  Well right down the road from where we live there is a few hills that the road was cut through.  So you have a road and on the side of the road is a side of a hill.  On these hill there is a ton of Kudzu growing.  (Now if you have ever been to the south you know what Kudzu is... but if you haven't, Kudzu is a vine that grows RAMPART!!! I mean it grows crazy fast.  They say if conditions are right Kudzu can grow 7 feet a week!! That is a foot a day!!!)

Anyway I drive past these hills almost every time I  leave my house (As I have to go down this road to get to the main part of town).  When we moved here in the winter the kudzu was dead so it was just the side of hills.... as the weather warmed up and the kudzu started to grow, I started noticing these "holes" in the ground..... with in a few weeks I start noticing the kind of large furry animals scurrying around.....

And low and behold - they were GROUNDHOGS!!!!  (You can click on the photos for a larger view!)

Now every time I drive down the road I am always searching for the groundhogs!!!  So this weekend my wonderful hubby suggested I  grab the camera and off groundhog hunting we went!!!

As the weather starts to change I know the groundhogs will go into hibernation soon, but until they do I have to tell you it is aways a joy to spot them!

Hope you enjoyed spotting them too (even if it was just here on my blog!!!)

Until Next Time!

and the answer to your question.... a woodchuck could chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood! LOL
