Hubby is home so I have come out of hiding just long enough to tell you about the card challenge that I am co-hosting with Chris Durnan!!! (What that means in all honestly is that she is doing ALL the work!!!! Bahahaha!!!)

National Card Making Day is October 6th, therefore we thought it would be fun to host a card challenge to allow you to show off your and win some great prizes!!! So the basics are you have to make a card and you can use any of my files or of Chris's files for your cards. These do not have to be pre-existing card files. You can use any of our files. It needs to be obvious that one of the files were either mine or Chris's or both. (That could be interesting)! LOL

To help those out who want a particular file for this Chris will be sending out a coupon code for 20% off on National Card Making Day for either mine or Chris's files. You can use it towards your entire shopping cart purchase ONLY if it is filled with mine and/or Chris's files.

(If you have not joined Chris email list please do so HERE - or you can email me at lori_mcdnld@yahoo.com and I will send you the coupon!)

Timeline - Pictures of your cards need to be posted the 19th -21st at Paperthreads (make sure you link the thread in the gallery to the forum) and voting will be the 22nd-24th

Chris and I are working out the prizes. So more information to come!!

Checking in and Checking out....

Ok just a quick check in....

I have had several people comment on the stars! Thank you sooooo very much for the compliments - I have to say I TOTALLY love them!!! This is probably the ONE crafty projects I have made for myself or for my home that I just LOVE!!!

I have had several people ask how hard was it - and I have to tell you it really wasn't hard at all (HONEST!!!)!!! All you have to do is purchase a tin star (my big one was 24" and the small one was 18" in size. If you can't locate a star email me and I will send you the web site I purchased mine from!)

The star I purchased was already black - but you can spray paint it any color you want. Then I used some copy paper and traced out one of the points. So I ended up with two patterns - the left side of the point and the right side of the point. I then held them together and I cut about 1/4" out of the middle - so that when I placed my pattern on the point, I had four pieces and there is a gap of the black from the star showing around the edges (kind of like a mat).

I then picked out my photos and use two opposite pieces of my point to cut the photos out.... (This was the hardest part!!!) I cut all the photo's using these two pattern pieces.

Then I took the other two pieces of my pattern and used it to cut out all my paper pieces.... Once all my pieces were cut out - I laid it out on the star using masking tape to hold it in place until I was happy with the layout and placement of the paper and photos (I used the photo in the magazine as a guide).

I then removed the tape and just used mod podge to glue it down. I used a sponge brush to spread the mod podge on just one point of the star, laid my pieces down on the glue and then used my Lil Chizzler to press the paper/photo's down smooth and make sure there was no bubbles. Then I repeated on the next point, etc....

I let it dry for about an hour, then I came back and added a layer of mod podge over the paper and the photos. Let that dry and then I did a second coat - that way it is all sealed down and I can use a damp cloth to clean the dust off of them down the road!! That was it.. EASY PEASY!!!!

Well hubby JUST called he is in Chicago!!! WHOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!! So I am off to shower, put on my makeup and iron my clothes and then I am off to the airport!!!

I will be hit and miss for a few days.. but I am not giving up my blog.. make sure you pop in regularly and see if I have blogged as I have some TOU files to share with all you cutter fans out there and you will not want to miss them!!!!

Until Next Time - the is Cpt. Mac's Wife Checking out!!!!

Another one down...

So I have finished up yet another project for my home!!! How exciting!!!! I posted a few days ago the altered tin barn star that I had seen in "Scrapbooking Etc." and how I wanted to make one to go over my fireplace.....

Well I researched tin stars - and I mean I looked every where local and on the net.... and I finally located some that I didn't mind the price too much... so I purchased two of them. One was 24" big and the other was 18". I was thinking I would do one for myself and then give the other away as a gift....

Well the stars got here and when I mock hung the large one over my fireplace - it seemed - well kind of small. My friend Susan was like why don't you use the big one in the center and place some smaller ones around it.... So that is what I decided to do!!!

I completely finished up both stars that I had already purchased - and then I ordered another 18" star that I plan to put on the other side of the large one... I have all the photos and paper cut out so all I have to do is mod podge them on when it the new star gets here.....

I made the large star out of all black and white photos of me and my hubby! The smaller star (the one that is finished) is of us and our family members... My parents, Andrew's parents, his kids, our puppy, etc.... and the other star that I will have to finish up is photos of us and our close friends, the Emery's and also a photo of Andrew and Chaplain Fisher....

I am soooo happy with the way they turned out... between painting the wall green (for those that remember my flooding experience) and waiting for the perfect thing to go over the fireplace (I have lived here almost three years with nothing over it)!!!! I can not be more pleased!!

Now I did show the large star to hubby on the webcam and he didn't seem too impressed... I am hoping that he will feel different when he gets home and actually sees them on the wall.... both my neighbors (one on each side) absolutely loved them.... so?!?!?

All the scrapbooking paper used was Basic Grey (A hodge podge of the different lines in the BG collection) and I used some gold "Say it with Crystals" from Prima on the large star. What you can't tell from the photos is that when I turn on the eyeball light above the fireplace it makes the crystals on the large star sparkle!!!!

So with out further ado.... Here are some photos!!!

Ok so here is the long shot of the green wall - now just imagine that the other star will be hanging on the left hand side... I have even hammered in the nail for it already!!! LOL

Then here is a close up:

Here is a close up of the large star:

And finally a close up of the small star that is complete....

Once I get the other small star in the mail and get it completed I will post a photo of all of them hanging on the wall!!!

Thanks for looking!! I would love to hear what you think...

Until Next Time!

You just have to love a GOOD friend.....(updated!)

So my friend Chris read my blog yesterday and my long list of things that had to get done before hubby's return. She sent me the following......

My rendition of your list. (My original list from yesterday are the items in red!)

Vacuum the whole house - or at least around all the stable furniture

Scrub the tile floors - tile floors.. how many rooms do you have. Is the grout that bad. This sounds like a back breaker. So

Clean Guest Bathroom - inlaws are coming so this is one you can't sidestep unfortunately. Nothing worse then a ring around the toilet. So this one is a must.

Clean Master Bathroom - instead lay in bubble bath and set out candles. Ambience in the master bathroom is really nice and the candle get rid of any lingering odors. With the lowered lighting, no one will notice anything.

Wash Sheets for all three guest Beds - all three guest beds. .. hmm... can you just switch the sheets around if it is the same people going to sleep in them again as last time. If not... Use febreeze. Pull the top cover back. Spray lysol disenfectant then let it air and dry and touch up with Febreeze. Done. No lifting hurting your back. Waiting for the washer to finish so you can switch it to the dryer. Or do wash sheets, sit on washer and read romantic fabio novel. Ha

Dust the furniture in the office - this function is great for a blow dryer. Walk in and blow the dust off the furniture.

Dust the furniture in the living room - Ditto. Only if anyone notices any trace of dust. blame it on the vaccuum. Tell them you need to buy a new one. Done.

Scrub the counter tops and the sink in the kitchen - the best way to keep your house looking clean is make sure the sink is empty. So "shine your sink" as they say. This is one you can't get out of.

Dust and straighten up the Master Bed Room - just straighten the master bedroom. Really with what you hubby who has been out of town for a few months will want most in this room has nothing to do with dust and he won't notice it.

Wash Sheets for Master Bed - This one I would save for after first night hubby gets home.

Polish Dinning Room table - Polish. Woww! .. Okay hmm.. placemats and a quick sheen of polish. It is going to be a mock thanksgiving everyone is coming for right? Well just cover the table with decorations.

Straighten up Craft Room - craft rooms are not supposed to be straightened up. In doing this I would decide it would be more fun to create something then clean up in this room. So get out the phone book.

Finish writing text documents for new files - your in the craft room. So I would work on this while looking in ads of the phone book for a maid for all the other stuff..

While in the phone book lookup location of car wash on the way to the groomers close to pedicure salon.

Call the salon and set an appt and the groomers. then call 1-800-merry maids... leave the house.. take the car to the carwash... drop off the dog next.. just in case she peed on herself listening to the car wash machines... then get your toes done.

Create new files while Merry Maids cleans the rest of the house because we know you aren't going to let them near your craft room.

Yep you just have to love a GOOD friend!!! (Oh and for the record - hubby also read my list and made a call from the sand just to tell me - as long as nothing was growing in the toilet - he could care LESS if ANYTHING on the list got done!!!!! See, I knew there was a reason I loved that man!!!) But those of you who know me.... know that I can't JUST clean the toilets!!! And Merry Maids, while sounds wonderful - I would just have to clean before they got here anyway so they DIDN'T SEE the stuff growing in the toilets!!! Bahahahaha......

Off to clean.......

Until Next Time!

Full Speed Ahead...

Ok so I should be moving full speed ahead... I really should be! I mean hey it is only a matter of days until the hubby is home!!! Whooo Hooo!!

But.......

Some how along the way I got side tracked! Not sure how that happened - but it did.... yep here is a list of things I NEED TO GET DONE:

Vacuum the whole house
Scrub the tile floors
Clean Guest Bathroom
Clean Master Bathroom
Wash Sheets for all three guest Beds
Dust the furniture in the office
Dust the furniture in the living room
Scrub the counter tops and the sink in the kitchen
Dust and straighten up the Master Bed Room
Wash Sheets for Master Bed
Polish Dinning Room table
Organize Christmas gifts and put away hubby's so he can't find then
Straighten up Craft Room
Finish writing text documents for new files
Wash the car
Take the Dog to the Groomers
Get my toes done! :)

Man that is a REALLY long list.... and what I am doing instead??? Well in this months Scrapbooking Etc. I saw a WAY WAY WAY cool altered Star project and thought to myself - WOW that would look really cool over my fireplace.... so I have been working on that instead of doing what I NEED to be doing....

There is only one problem - the area over my fireplace has 10 foot ceilings - so ONE star looks really bare - and now my project has turned into THREE Stars!!!! LOL

Keep watch and I will share my finished project soon!!!!

Until Next Time - ugh so much to do!!!!
