GO DAWGS!!!

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia Bulldogs will wear a helmet sticker to honor the Georgia-based 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team during their game against South Carolina today. The 1-inch by 1.5-inch sticker will be a replica of the combat team's shoulder sleeve insignia.

The 48th IBCT is comprised of approximately 3,000 Georgians (including my hubby!!!) and is currently deployed in Afghanistan with the mission of training and mentoring the Afghan Army and Police. The brigade, which is part of the Georgia National Guard, is headquartered out of Macon, with subordinate battalions based in Calhoun, Forsyth, Griffin, Savannah, Statesboro and Winder. Additional company level units are from smaller towns throughout the state.

"When I heard that the 48th was from throughout the state of Georgia, I was excited about the opportunity," head coach Mark Richt said. "Hopefully, this is a sign of our appreciation for all the men and women who are serving and for their families as well. We owe them all the support we can give."

Richt was originally contacted this summer via email by LTC John Gentry, a member of the 48th who also serves as the Director of Oconee County Parks and Recreation Department.

"To date we have lost seven soldiers in the line of duty," Gentry wrote. "A thought that I had to honor those soldiers and families whom have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving the 48th IBCT, the state of Georgia and the USA is this: I wanted to know if Coach Richt and the university would consider sewing on the 48th IBCT patch on No. 48 during this football season?"

The 48th IBCT soldiers who have been killed in action are: 1st Sergeant John D. Blair; Major Kevin M. Jenerette; Sergeant First Class John C. Beale; Sergeant Brock H. Chavers; Sergeant Issac L. Johnson, Jr.; Sergeant Jeffery W. Jordon; and Sergeant Raymundo P. Morales.

The Georgia staff then made the decision to place a sticker on the helmet of every Georgia player for a particular game.

Last summer, Richt was among a group of five college football coaches who toured and visited with U.S. troups in Germany and the Middle East.

"After that trip, I certainly have a greater appreciation for their sacrifice," Richt said. "To be there and see them face-to-face was definitely an eye-opening experience."

GO DAWGS!!! Woooop Wooooop!!

Weight in...Thursday?!?!

So I have gotten a few emails in the past week asking how I was doing on my weight loss. If I was still trying to lose weight or if I had given up on the plan!! LOL

For those of you that are new to my blog - I have a bet with my hubby that I can lose 69 pounds by the time he returns in or around March 2010. If I do, he has to take me to the Dominic Republic so I can learn to kite surf!!!

So.... I started my diet in April - and just to catch everyone up... I was 214 pounds! (I know can you believe I actually admitted that here on my blog?!?!? But hey ya'll are my closest friends right - and I know you are not going to go and actually TELL anyone! Are you?!?! Bahahaha)

And at today's weigh in I was............ (this is normally where you would hear the intense music or drum roll or some sort of fanfare) 181 lbs!

So that brings my stats to 33 pounds lost, with 36 pounds left to go!!!!

All in all not tooo bad.... I did have a little bit of a set back when I was so sick and in and out of the hospital/Dr offices so much. And even now with the bone spur on my foot (yes it still hasn't been resolved yet!!!) my exercise is much more limited than it was!

My next big hurdle is the 179 pound mark! If I can get there - I will officially have LOST more weight than I have to lose..... and that is a huge mile stone for me!!!!

Having lost this weight has been a huge inspiration so here is a sneak peek of one of my new files that will be available soon! (Don't forget the big announcement is coming soon!!!)

Hope you all have a great day!

Until Next Time!

As a Military wife...

I have to tell you there are some things that really TICK me off!!! And here is one of them...

I got this "SCAM" email today....

From Sgt.Ronald G.Brown.

Good Day,

I found your contact particulars in an E-mail address guide that was provided to us here, as I desperately needed an urgent help to do this deal. I am seeking your kind assistance to move the sum of $15m {Fifteen Million U.S Dollars only} to you; as far as I can be assured that my share will be safe in your care until I complete my service here.

SOURCE OF FUND: A lot of money in various currencies were discovered in barrels at a farmhouse near one of Saddam's old palaces in Tikrit in Iraq during an operation Conquest in Fallujah north of Baghdad, and it was agreed by Staff Sgt. Kenneth Buff and I that some part of this money be shared among both of us before informing anybody about it since both of us saw the money first. This is quite an illegal thing to do, but well tell you what, no compensation can make up for the risk we have taken with our lives in this hell hole, of which my brother in-law was killed by a road side bomb last time.

The above figure was given to me as my share, and to conceal this kind of money became a problem for me, so with the help of a British Contact working here, at Southern Basra British fortified green zone, whose office enjoys some immunity, I was able to get the package out to a safe location entirely out of trouble spot. He does not know the real contents of the package, and believes that it belongs to a British/American medical doctor who died in a raid here in Baghdad, and before giving up, trusted me to hand over the package to his family in United States.

I have now found a much secured way of getting the package out of Iraq to you, for you to pick it up, and I will discuss this with you when I am sure that you are willing to assist me, and I believe that my money will be well secured in your hand because you have fear of God. I want you to tell me how much you will take from this money for the assistance you will give me.

One passionate appeal I will make to you is not to discuss this matter with anybody, should you have reasons to reject this offer, please and please destroy this message as any leakage of this information will be too bad and catastrophe for soldiers here in Iraq. I do not know how long we will remain here, but I hope to have a shift very soon for me to return back to the States.

I have been shot and wounded twice and I have survived two terrible suicides bomb attacks just by special grace of God, this and other reasons I will mention later has prompted me to reach out for help, I will honestly want this matter be resolved immediately because the President is working hard to pull us out of Iraq and if this happen which I knew would be soonest, I may find it difficult to move the fund out of Iraq and this is why/other reason for my urgent call for assistance.

I thank you so much for everything and anticipate that you will be trustworthy and handle this transaction to the best of your ability to benefit both of us.

God Bless you and your family.

Yours
Sgt.Ronald G.Brown

First of all - the person who wrote this can not even use proper English! Which ticks me off because it makes it look like our US Soldiers are stupid.

Then this letter plays on every fear that a military family has... that their loved one is going to get hurt or injured, that they are not being paid enough to do their job, and how they are more than willing to do something illegal! ARE YOU KIDDING ME...

And finally it really gets my goat that they bring God into this deal!

In today's economy I can see that someone might really need some money, and hey they would be helping a soldier right.... PLEASE IF YOU GET THE ABOVE EMAIL - IT IS A SCAM!!! DO NOT - REPEAT DO NOT try to help this person!

My hope is one day they run into a real soldier and they learn what honor, duty and service really looks like. And I feel confidant that God will take care of the rest!

Stepping off my soap box now...

Until Next Time!

Happy Tuesday!!!

I hope you had a great holiday weekend - as for me I worked for most of it!!! As you all know (or should know by now) I am no longer with Paperthreads and I will be announcing (soon) where you can find all of my designs!!! But in order to make this transition it is a LOT OF WORK!!! Not to mention that when the announcement comes - there are going to be a whole slew of brand new designs that you have never seen before!!! And that means WORK WORK WORK for me!!!!

In addition to all that, I am getting ready for vacation, and for hubby to come home on his mid tour leave !!! Whooo Hooo!!! Let me tell you - I need a vacation as well as I need to see my hubby!!!! So starting next week I will be around few and far between as I get ready and then I will be on vacation for about two weeks - but I will still be uploading the Friday Freebies and I will be making the HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT some where in there as well!!! So make sure you keep on checking back!

Now I do believe that all work and no play isn't good for anyone - so I did take time out to go to the movies on Sunday! I went and saw "All About Steve" with Sandra Bullock!!! Oh my goodness - this was a mega fun movie!!! I mean really fun! I don't think that the critics gave it too high of ratings (I mean hey- what do they know!!) But I laughed and laughed - and I think the best thing about it was that I saw a part of myself in Mary. Add to that it ended with a great moral to life!! I really liked it!

So if you are wanting a funny but feel good movie - I would recommend seeing "All About Steve"
Sandra Bullock is great in this movie (and did you know she produced it as well?!?!) Oh and not to mention that Bradley Cooper is pretty easy on the eyes!!! So what are you waiting for? Go get your ticket now!! Bahahaha!

Hope you have a GREAT Tuesday - I am heading back to conversions, test cutting and writing text files!

Until Next Time!

Happy Labor Day!!!

Hope you are all having a great day off with family and friends.... as for me - well I am working!!! Of course playing with scissors and glue all day doesn't REALLY count as working according to my hubby!!!! LOL

I read this today online - and thought I would help educate everyone else on the true orgin of Labor Day!

Back in the days of the Industrial Revolution, workers were expected to put in 12-hour days, seven days a week (yes, including kids). Already sounds awful, right? It gets worse. In Pullman, Illinois, a company town that employed and housed workers to build posh railway cars, times had gotten tough. In response, George Pullman cut jobs and wages. It was 1893. Thousands of workers walked off their jobs in protest, demanding higher salaries and lower rents. Other unions joined, refusing to work the Pullman cars, turning the small-town fracas into a national fury.

With mail cars backing up, and riots worrying train execs, President Grover Cleveland stepped in. He declared the strike illegal and sent 12,000 troops to break the strike. Cue brutal protests and bloodshed. The strike was broken, but so was the spirit of the workers. To reach out to the labor movement, Congress rushed the national holiday into law. The bad will resulted in Cleveland losing re-election. But the day off for hot dogs endures.

Labor Day falls on the first Monday of September. This year, that would be Monday, September 7- Today! According to the Department of Labor, Congress passed an act in 1894 making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday. So, working stiffs everywhere, say it now, with feeling: Happy Labor Day.

Additionally, I thought I would share today's Maxine with you - I thought it might actually apply to "gasp" me!!!

HAPPY LABOR DAY - I hope you enjoy your day!

Until Next Time!
